A major development between the Texas Rangers’ ballpark and Cowboys Stadium in Arlington opens Thursday night. It’s called Texas Live!, a new 200,000-square-foot sports-themed restaurant and entertainment complex. It’s adjacent to developing Globe Life Field, the new home for the Rangers set to open in 2020. The South Bend Cubs (Single-A, Midswest League) will celebrate the legacy of Fred Rogers with “Mister Rogers Day” on Sunday, August 12. On this “beautiful day in the neighborhood,” the team will wear Mister Rogers-themed jerseys and activities honoring the television icon will take place throughout the game. Proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit WNIT Public Television. Bid on jerseys here.
The Somerset Patriots welcomed their 7,000,000th Fan to TD Bank Ballpark on Thursday, July 26th. At 6:34 pm, Dan Heitkamp of Washington Township purchased the ticket to the game and entered the main gate with his 4-year old godson Logan where he was greeted by Somerset Patriots President/General Manager Patrick McVerry and Manager Emeritus Sparky Lyle among the fanfare.
As the batter steps to the plate, the clamor crescendoes — a rhyming, thumping chant, often tailored to his name. Cheerleaders prance atop the dugout, accompanied by blaring recorded music or even live drums and brass instruments. Fans wield all manner of noise makers — clappers, pairs of plastic bats, small vuvuzelas — pretty much nonstop for nine innings. Read more here.
