The Staten Island Yankees, the former short-season Class A affiliate of the New York Yankees, announced Thursday that the organization is ceasing operations and filed a lawsuit against its former parent club – as well as Major League Baseball. Read more here.
New York City has committed to a $5.1 million allocation to upgrade and revitalize Richmond County Bank Ballpark, which will prime it for other uses besides baseball. Author and creator of the hit HBO series Game of Thrones George R.R. Martin will be in attendance at Richmond County Bank Ballpark tonight to sign autographs as the Baby Bombers become the Staten Island Direwolves, complete with a live wolf mascot at the stadium. The team will wear special jerseys to be auctioned off with proceeds going to the Wild Spirit Wolf Sanctuary. The visiting Hudson Valley Renegades will don House Lannister-inspired jerseys.
