PRESS RELEASE – The Pierre Trappers of the Expedition League announced they will be holding a “Pierre Cowboys Night” promotion on July 24th, 2019 when they take on the Hub City Hotshots and will wear Pierre Cowboys throwback jerseys.
The Pierre Cowboys were a collegiate summer league team that played in the Basin League from the 1950s to early 1970s at Hyde Stadium where the Trappers now play. The jerseys will have the Pierre Cowboys script on the front, a Basin League patch on the sleeve, and names of Cowboys alumni on the back.
Those alumni include over 20 players who played Major League Baseball, two players who would go on to play football in the National Football League, and the only Pierre native to play on the team, Gaylord Sonnenschein.
“The Pierre Cowboys had such an amazing following and history here in our town”, said Trappers General Manager Jackson Bruce, “Guys like Sammy Ellis and Bobby Bryant ended up succeeding after their time here in Pierre, which is what we want our guys to strive for.”
That night will also include Pierre Cowboys trivia, era-related promotions, and a live jersey auction after the game.
Tickets to Pierre Cowboys Night, along with other individual games, go on sale Monday, April 15th. You can purchase single game tickets, flex packs, and season ticket packages by visiting http://www.pierretrappers.com, or by emailing Jackson Bruce (firstname.lastname@example.org).
