Latest Blowfish Ballpark Construction Photos Released, Lake Murray Theme-Night Jersey Revealed

Construction photos have been released of the new ballpark under construction in Lexington County (SC) for the summer collegiate Lexington County Blowfish (Coastal Plain League). The team has also released the jersey design for the special Lake Murray Blowfish night.

Blowfish Break Ground on Lexington County Ballpark

PRESS RELEASE – The next chapter of baseball in Lexington County is here as representatives from the Blowfish, Lexington County Council and Lexington Recreation & Aging Commission broke ground today on the new collegiate baseball stadium at “Wildcat Hollow.”

The official groundbreaking for the new ballpark in Lexington County (SC) for the summer collegiate Columbia (now “Lexington County”) Blowfish (Coastal Plain League) is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 12pm at 474 Ballpark Road in Lexington.  The ballpark’s 2015 opening day is scheduled for May 27.  Read more here.

The owner of the summer collegiate Columbia Blowfish (Coastal Plain League) announced Monday that the team is moving to Lexington County (SC) for the 2015 season.  The Blowfish will play at a newly constructed baseball stadium on Ballpark Road at the site of the old Wildcat Hollow football stadium. One More Season at Capital City Stadium for Blowfish? (UPDATED)

The Columbia (SC) City Council on Tuesday night is scheduled to give a second reading approval to an agreement that would bring the summer collegiate Columbia Blowfish (Coastal Plain League) back to Capital City Stadium for the 2014 season.  The city is currently considering a plan to build a new ballpark for an affiliated club.  Read more here.  UPDATE: City approves one more year for Blowfish.  Read more here.

No Ballpark for Blowfish in Lexington

The Lexington County (SC) Recreation and Aging Commission had proposed a $23 million facilities bond that reportedly included $3 million for a new ballpark to attract the summer collegiate Columbia Blowfish (Coastal Plain League), but the county council on Tuesday approved the bond without the baseball stadium plan.  Read more here.

Columbia’s Bull Street Development Could Include Ballpark

Columbia (SC) Mayor Steve Benjamin along with other city and business leaders announced on Tuesday a development agreement for the former Department of Mental Health property along Bull Street that could include building a new minor-league baseball stadium.  Read more here and here.

Home Run King Hank Aaron Visits Capital City Stadium

Columbia Talking With MiLB Officials

Blowfish Exploring Move to Lexington County

Now that the sale of Capital City Stadium to a Walmart developer has been authorized, the summer collegiate Columbia Blowfish (Coastal Plain League) must find a new home.  The team is now in early talks with the mayors of Cayce and Lexington about building a new multi-use facility.  Seeing the writing on the wall, the Blowfish have been looking for a new home since last fall.  Read more here.

Columbia City Council Delays Vote on Ballpark Sale

The Columbia (SC) City Council has set aside a vote on the $1 million sale of Capital City Stadium, home of the summer collegiate Columbia Blowfish (Coastal Plain League), because of a watershed issue that will require a one to three month long study to resolve.  The property is being sold to make room for a new Walmart-based development.  Read more here.

There is talk in Columbia (SC) that Capital City Stadium, home of the summer collegiate Columbia Blowfish (Coastal Plain League) is or could be for sale.  The city has apparently been approached by several developers who are eyeing the 4.5 acre tract of land for residential to commercial development.  Read more here.
