School Board Approves Financing for North Augusta Project

Augusta Green Jackets LogoThe Aiken County (SC) School Board voted 7-2 Tuesday night to approve the district’s portion of TIF financing needed for Project Jackson, which incorporates a new baseball stadium for the Single-A Augusta GreenJackets (South Atlantic League).  It was agreed that none of the district’s financing would go toward the baseball portion of the development.  Read more here.

Columbia Mayor Talking Ballpark with Experienced Team Owner

Columbia SC SealColumbia (SC) Mayor Steve Benjamin says he is in serious talks with a minor league baseball owner to bring a team to Columbia and could present a stadium funding proposal to City Council as early as this fall.  Later this month, the mayor says he plans to visit a stadium that the undisclosed owner has built in the Midwest.  Read more here.

Columbia’s Bull Street Development Could Include Ballpark

County Rejects Extending TIF District for North Augusta Ballpark Project

Columbia Talking With MiLB Officials

What to Do With Knights Stadium?

Now that the Triple-A Charlotte Knights (International League) are leaving their current 10,000-seat home in Fort Mill (SC) for a new uptown Charlotte (NC) ballpark after next season, York County (SC) officials have formed a six-member committee to explore the use and development options for the 33-acre site on which Knights Stadium and a parking lot now sit.  Read more here.

Remembering Meadowbrook Park, 1972 Greenville Rangers

Next Tuesday will mark the 40th anniversary of baseball’s loss of “The Alamo” (not the one in San Antonio) to an early morning fire.  Meadowbrook Park, built in 1938, was gutted by flames on Valentine’s Day in 1972, just before young Rich Donnelly rolled into Greenville (SC) to manage the the Single-A Greenville Rangers (Western Carolinas League).  Read more here.  Soon after the Continue reading

Lander University to Dedicate New Ballpark (UPDATED)

Lander University (Greenwood, SC) is scheduled to dediate the new Stephen B. Vision for New Ballpark in Columbia

Miami (FL) architect and planner Andres Duany and Greenville (SC) developer Bob Hughes unveiled a proposed plan for a new minor league ballpark on a 165-acre State Hospital campus on Bull Street in Columbia (SC).  Read more here.  Columbia is the current home of the summer collegiate Columbia Blowfish (Coastal Plain League).
