It’s a long and tedious process turning a baseball diamond into a soccer field. It’s a process that the grounds crew for the Lansing Lugnuts (Single-A, Midwest League and Ignite soccer team haven’t done often. Soccer Makes Home Debut at Lugnuts’ Ballpark
45 minutes into the game, the Lansing Ignite Football Club (USL League One) brought 3,369 fans to their feet by scoring the team’s first home goal inside Cooley Law School Stadium on Saturday night. The affair was a historic one — the first professional soccer match to be played in Michigan since the Detroit Express in the North American Soccer League back in 1980. Read more here. City Gives Approval for Soccer at Lugnuts Ballpark
The Lansing (MI) City Council unanimously approved a deal this week to bring professional soccer to Lansing’s downtown baseball stadium beginning this spring. The team will be called the Lansing Ignite and owned by the owner of the Lansing Lugnuts (Single-A, Midwest League). The team will play in the United Soccer League Division 3, an offshoot of the longstanding USL and a league loosely affiliated with Major League Soccer. Read more here.

Michigan vs. Michigan State Rugby Coming to Lugnuts Home
Cooley Law School Stadium, home of the Lansing Lugnuts (Single-A, Midwest League), will play host to its first rugby game between Michigan State University and the University of Michigan’s club teams at 7 p.m. on Oct. 19. Read more here.

Lugnuts Ready to Unveil First Wave of Ballpark Renovations
As the Lansing Lugnuts (Single-A, Midwest League) prepare to host Michigan State University’s baseball team tonight in the annual Crosstown Showdown — and kick off its regular Midwest League season Friday against Lake County — its hometown park is getting ready for a debut of its own: The first wave of a roughly $13.5 million renovation project is nearly complete. The 2015 Beerfest at the Ballpark
Tickets went on sale Friday for the 2nd Annual “Beerfest at the Ballpark” festival taking place at Cooley Law School Stadium, home of the Single-A Lansing Lugnuts, on April 25. State Approves Funding for Outfield Building Project
Through the Michigan Strategic Fund, an arm of the Michigan Economic Development Corp., the state is going to contribute $2.5 million to help private developer Pat Gillespie build an $11 million, four-story apartment building overlooking the outfield of Cooley Law School Stadium, home of the Single-A Lansing Lugnuts (Midwest League). Lugnuts Ballpark Upgrades Over Budget
Renovations to Cooley Law School Stadium, home of the Single-A Lansing Lugnuts (Midwest League), will cost up to $3 million more than budgeted. According to the Lansing (MI) mayor’s office, new locker rooms, scoreboards, concessions areas and other upgrades will have to rely on more private funding and more bonding dollars. Read more here.
