PRESS RELEASE – Mobile BayBears Professional Baseball, Baseball America’s Minor League Team of the Year in 2011, announced today they have extended their player development contract with the Arizona Diamondbacks. The extension runs through the 2014 season and ensures the club’s Double-A affiliation with the 2011 National League Western Division champions.
“The D-backs are elated to be affiliated with the Mobile BayBears organization and the Mobile community for an additional two years,” said Diamondbacks Director of Player Development Mike Bell. “Bill Shanahan and the entire BayBears organization have provided an environment in which our young players can flourish on and off the field. We are appreciative of the support from the organization and the community. We look forward to more successes in the years to come!”
The BayBears have been connected with the Diamondbacks since the 2007 season and have sent over 20 players to the big leagues since beginning their affiliation. Additionally, seven former BayBears were on the D-backs postseason roster in 2011.
“Mobile is extremely proud to be a part of D-backs baseball and are looking forward to continuing our great relationship through 2014,” said BayBears President/COO Bill Shanahan. “Winning the Southern League Championship and Baseball America’s Minor League Team of the Year has provided great memories for years to come in Mobile. From Ken Kendrick, Derrick Hall, Kevin Towers to Mike Bell and our hometown manager Turner Ward–Mobile has hit a home run! The BayBears and D-backs are a winning combination!”
To celebrate and honor a winning tradition that has awarded the BayBears as “America’s #1 Minor League Team,” the team is giving fans a chance to see the BayBears begin their Southern League title defense against the Pensacola Blue Wahoos for a price that’s number one! On Tuesday, April 10, fans can purchase a ticket to Opening Night at “The Hank” for just $1 and see the first ever game in the “Bay-to-Bay” series between the BayBears and Blue Wahoos.
“With all the accolades the BayBears and D-backs received on the field, we want to recognize our fans for being our number one supporters,” said Shanahan. “This opportunity gives fans a chance to get the first look at the 2012 BayBears, as they start an exciting new rivalry with the Blue Wahoos.”
