Based on a structural evaluation by an engineering firm, the press box at 75-year-old McBride Stadium, home of the summer collegiate Richmond (IN) RiverRats (Prospect League), will have to be relocated from atop the structure. There is no timetable yet on when this will happen. As you might recall, McBide was the home of the indy pro Richmond Roosters (Frontier League) from 1995-2005 before the team was sold and reclocated to Traverse City (MI). As a high school student and stringer for the Richmond office of The Cincinnati Enquirer in the 1940s, I spend a lot of hours on the roof of what then was called Municipal Stadium. I covered the Richmond Roses Class A pro team in the Ohio-Indiana League, and lots of Sundays covering the Richmond Industrial League games… great memories being there through the years with Pal-Item sports writers Dale Stevens, Jack Bundy and Cy McBride. Dave Sherick faithfully operated the balls, strike and outs, and we always enjoyed Rinard Hitchcock, Owen Huntsman and host of other helpers and visitors. wayne chandler
