PRESS RELEASE – The Springfield Sliders have announced the signing of a lease extension between the team and the Springfield Park District that will allow the Sliders to continue playing at Robin Roberts Stadium for the foreseeable future. The new lease runs through the 2017 season.
The original lease with the Park District was signed in 2008 and after the Sliders’ fifth season in Springfield the lease was renewed for an additional five years.
“We’d like to thank the Springfield Park District for their continued support and partnership with Springfield Sliders baseball. We see a great future for the team in Springfield and we are thrilled to make Robin Roberts Stadium our home for the next five years and beyond,” said Shane Martin, owner.
Sliders Baseball Group, LLC, headed by Shane Martin purchased the team in April of 2012 in the team’s last year of its original lease agreement with the Park District.
“One of our main goals, obviously, in the off season was to work out a lease extension with the city and the Park District. We felt their support and their cooperation tremendously in our first year and we really can’t say enough about how well the staff has taken care of us here in Springfield. We are so excited for baseball season to get here,” continued Martin.
“This is exciting news,” said Mike Stratton, Executive Director of the Springfield Park District. “The past five years have been incredible for the citizens of our community to come out and enjoy a level of entertainment and great baseball at historic Robin Roberts Stadium. We welcome the new owners and the renewed commitment to continue to provide summer family fun and baseball for years to come.”
The Sliders play in the summer collegiate Prospect League which was formed in 2009 and includes teams from Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania and West Virginia. The 2013 season will begin in late May and runs through early August. The Sliders play a 60-game schedule with 30 games to be held at Robin Roberts Stadium.
