A city council member in Hagerstown (MD) believes the city should issue an RFP (request for proposal) to attract other potential minor-league bidders to use the proposed new stadium, rather than simply catering to the Single-A Hagerstown Suns (South Atlantic League). It is not a bad move, if you are trying to extract concessions from the Suns, but you better be careful — it could poison the water. The Suns have already shown a willingness to move if a new ballpark deal transpires elsewhere, so playing the indy pro card like they did in nearby Frederick (MD) could backfire if this causes delay and another community steps up to the plate to woo the Suns.
