Omaha Flame Group Targeting Shakopee (MN)?

Shakopee Facebook LogoWhile doing a little research on the failed effort to build a new stadium and bring an expansion indy pro Northern League franchise called the Metro Millers to the south Minneapolis (MN) suburb of Burnsville back in 2008, we came across a website claiming that a new team also called the Metro Millers will begin play at the yet-t0-be-built Metro Millers Multi-Event Park in nearby Shakopee in 2014.  The Burnsville group is apparently not involved.

The stadium photo used on the website is of the former Alexian Field (now Boomer Stadium), home of the indy pro Schaumburg Boomers (Frontier League), taken by retired ballpark photographer/tourist Gary Jarvis from MinorLeagueBallparks.com back in 2000.  Interestingly, the contact person for the Metro Millers venture is Director of Sales and Marketing Tom Carlson, who serves (or served) in the same role for the proposed indy pro Omaha Flame (Northern League/North American League) that failed to secure a lease to use TD Ameritrade Park, the new home of the College World Series.

There is no word on the league the group might be targeting, but we think there is little chance that the indy pro St. Paul Saints would allow another American Association franchise to enter the Minneapolis/St. Paul market.

Below is a drawing of the failed project in Burnsville.  We have yet to find a rendering of the proposed park in Shakopee.

I would see a Northwoods League team happening in Shakopee before anything professional.
