Expedition League Launches Team in Caldwell (Idaho)

PRESS RELEASE – The Expedition League, with 11 teams in North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming, Montana, and Manitoba Canada, today announced the arrival of its affiliate in Caldwell, Idaho. The Canyon County Spuds will play at Wolfe Field.

The Expedition League is an elite summer collegiate wood bat baseball league that promotes affordable, wholesome family entertainment, enhances the quality of life in its member communities, provides the tools and experience to optimize collegiate players’ development and potential to play professional baseball, while providing the infrastructure and support necessary for the success of the league affiliated team owners.

Expedition League teams play a 64-game season beginning on May 25, 2021 and ending on August 7, 2021 with one week of playoffs after the regular season to crown the League champion. The 2021 All-Star Extravaganza will be July 19-20, 2021 at Mike Lansing Field in Casper, WY, home of the Casper Horseheads.

“We are extremely excited to add an Expedition League team in Canyon County”, said Steve Wagner, Expedition League President. “As one of the fastest growing cities in Idaho, and an economic and cultural hub with a rich history, Caldwell is the perfect community for an Expedition League team. The people in and around Caldwell are wonderful people and we are thrilled to bring our brand of high caliber, nonstop fun, family entertainment to this great city and the surrounding communities. Wolfe Field is an incredible ballpark and the perfect venue for Expedition League baseball and FUN. I’m very pleased to have an outstanding, successful entrepreneur such as Jeff Dobish involved in Expedition League team ownership. Jeff and his family will do an outstanding job of operating the Spuds and in creating a fan experience at Wolfe Field that’s second to none!”

“The City of Caldwell and the College of Idaho have done an outstanding job of constructing and renovating Wolfe Field”, stated Jeff Dobish, Owner of the Canyon County Spuds, the new Expedition League team. The first baseball field in the State of Idaho with an artificial turf infield, Wolfe Field has evolved into one of the premier venues to watch baseball in the Gem State. Initially constructed in 2009 as a partnership between the City of Caldwell and the College of Idaho, Wolfe Field serves as the home of the College of Idaho Coyote baseball program. In 2015, a seating bowl was constructed, with nearly 1,000 individual purple seat backs available for fans, while in 2018, a new courtyard, concession stand, press box, restrooms and a coach’s office were all opened. Lights were added in 2020. “We’re looking forward to a few additional upgrades coming for the 2021 season that will enhance the fan experience. I cannot wait for 2021 Opening Day on May 25, 2021. Wolfe Field will be rockin’ all summer long. It’s thrilling to add the first of many Idaho teams to the Expedition League here in Caldwell. This team and City are truly an anchor for this expansion.”
