Last fall, the owner of LaGrave Field, Fort Worth Stadium Group LLC led by Houston developer Andrew Schatte, chose not to renew the stadium’s lease with the indy pro Fort Worth Cats (United League) and closed the ballpark down. As a developer, he bought LaGrave in 2012 in hopes of selling it or swapping it for more surrounding land. So far, there have been no takers. Public officials, who have so far rejected the idea of acquiring the ballpark, say it’s possible that with no deal, Schatte may decide to demolish LaGrave and redevelop the site.
The Cats continue to search for a new location to play, but owner John Bryant has said he is not optimistic about it. An interesting side note — if the team moves to another location, the team will have to find a new moniker. The city owns the Cat’s name, and any team using it must play at LaGrave. Read more here.
