Stick a Fork in it, the Southwestern States League is Done

We have been informed by Steve Maddock, director of baseball operations for the upstart Southwestern States League, that he has closed down the circuit and informed the SWSL’s host communities.  According to Maddock, the league’s bills have been piling up, and founder and financier Nate Snyder is not returning phone calls or responding to e-mails.  Like Brian Ramsey, who resigned last month because he failed to get paid, Maddock is owed money under his employment contract.  The SWSL’s website, hosted by Pointstreak, has been shut down.

I can’t wait to see the comments when the experts who have posted here (you know who you are) get the nuggets to start your own league.

Nate you ARE here and reading these. Knew you were just wondering when you’d create ANOTHER false account and show your face. Appropriate screen name though! Very fitting!

I haven’t seen the the words loser, idiot, and Nate Snyder used in the same sentence yet. Please people if you ever use any of these 3 words, use the other 2 as well. It’s a natural fit.

Example: “hey, there’s Nate Snyder, man that idiot is a loser!”

    Or

“Nate Snyder is an idiot loser. ”

    Or

“that scumbag ,wannabe, idiot, loser Nate Snyder thinks he is a baseball person and owes alot of people money”

Mt take is like this: the NYSL is the owner of this team. If you own them you control that team in all aspects long as it is running according to the teams franchise agreement within the league and its bylaws. So with this in mind the NYSL is paying the bills, so they will hire their own manager, staff and players. The Bats are a member of the Pecos league, the Bats are owned by the NYSL but not a member of the NYSL but the Pecos. This is my understanding..

  6. Been Around

Is Carlsbad going to be IN the NYSL, or just operated by? Sounded like the group from the NYSL is operating it, not incorporating it into the league.

  7. Embeded Wiskers

I am just trying to figure this all out that is all. So these numerous released, and ex pros are going to come to play for carlsbad, and accept no pay? Why would these guys be in the NYSL a developmental league at that, and pay to play there. Being ex pros, you would think they would not have to revert back to a developmental league to find a place to play. Just my .02

  8. Message to Embeded Wiskers…

The NYSL is obviously the best move the Pecos League has made for travel team…If you don’t like Jay Acton then you don’t know him…..
I am not sure who you are with, but obviously you seem to care…

Probably because you are trying to make money off of this somehow or you were affliated with SWSL…Because that is the only people that would care…

The team is not pay for play, there are numerous released players and ex pro players that will win games and go .500….

  9. What name did you attempt to register under? I would be glad to help you out.

  10. Embeded Wiskers

And I wonder why they do not allow you to register on the Message Board. The place looks like a joke

  11. Embeded Wiskers

This is taken directly from the Pecos League Message Board, so I guess YES they are a pay to play team…

    NYSL Takes over Carlsbad Bats
New York State League takes control of operations of the Bats…

#1 This will be a pay to play team
#2 They elected to release all existing players and bring their own players in.
#3 They will have their own coaching staff

The correction has been made to the forum. The Bats are not a pay to play team at all. The poster ment to say it will not be pay to play.

  12. Embeded Wiskers

    Really???

  13. Derrick

Pecos League is not Pay to Play, it has Zero pay to play teams, the continental league had all pay to play teams, what is the comparison of Pecos and SWSL

  14. Embeded Wiskers

Indy Baller, I agree with you, if you get a jerzey, and a few bucks to play, thats a good deal. However if you have to pay to wear that jerzey, then thats a whole different ball of wax.

  15. Brian

How did a SWSL Stick a fork in it topic become a bash the Pecos League. The Carlsbad Bats are not a pay to play team. I think its very difficult to bash the Pecos League. Andrew Dunn has put in lots of work in one year to make this happen. To compare the Pecos to the CBL is completely premature. The Pecos has not began play, and by the final days of the CBL we all can agree that it was a joke. But I say reserve judgement until after the first season, when we know exactly how things will be. I fully expect the Pecos to play ball and be sucessful in its own right over the forseeable future.

For a “Pro Scout” to come online a bash is a very unprofessional act. As stated previously, even the CBL produced some players that moved to affiliated ball and even making a big clubs 40man. Bashing and ignoring the small leagues is completely your loss. Granted its alot easier to find a player with lots of potiental if he is playing in the American Association, but hell any smart baseball fan can do that. The great thing about baseball is that you never know where you may find a player.

  16. Embeded Wiskers

In defense of “Regular Nobody” I can tell you that The Bats Team is a pay to play team. In fact i believe all of the teams are doing this, and calling them “Taxi” guys or some shit like that. Why have you seen nothing written on this? My guess would be that any league that is stating they are “Professional” Baseball certainly would have no credibility once people knew this. Basically it would rate them right up there with a glorified AAU team.
I certainly would not brag to people that yea i play “Pro”ball but one minor thing, I have to pay for it. The Pecos League is a Joke. A bunch of non baseball guys who are trying to gain respect. I will give this league maybe a full year then it’s done, like there brother the CBL.

    • Indy baller

didn’t the CBL last for 4 years? and have 10 players make it to affiliated ball? over 100 players get promoted to higher leagues? and have a player on the 40 man right now with the Royals? sounds like they were decently successful in my opinion.

non- baseball guys? that dosent even make sense. If guys are playing ball then they are baseball guys no more or less them me or you. Just cuz a guy dosent play in the majors or what ever league you cam from dosent mean they aren’t baseball guys.
the guy that runs this website, the guy who does forums, the coach working with little leaguers, the die hard fan who goes to every game. They are all baseball guys in my opinion.
If it wasnt for all those people being baseball guys the sport wouldnt matter nor would all these leagues. If you get a jersey and a place to live with a few bux, it sounds to me like your living the life instead of being put behind a cubicle all day busting your hump wishing you could be on the field.
Just sounds like their is a few bitter, maybe non-baseball guys out there who want to slam and rip apart anything they are not apart of.

  17. Regular Nobody

The Carlsbad Bats are a pay to play team. It is a joke, and from what I gather, they commisioner and his puppet sidekicks are trying to throw there left over shit there way. The league is a joke…

    • Indy baller

how would you know this? I havent been able to see anything written on this? anywhere. I thought their coach was recruiting his own players and hosting tryouts to find them?

  18. Derrick

The Carlsbad Bats are not pay for play team, the Pecos League leased the team..they will be a travel team possibly ran by an individual from the northeeast, there was never a comparison to SWSL and Pecos

  19. Pro Scout

The Pecos is a Joke too! Word is they are going to pull the same thing the CBL did, have players pay to make of the traveling team Carlsbad Bats. This simply is not professional baseball! Pay 2k and you are guaranteed 12 games and your called a taxi player. What a joke! Whats next! Certainly Mr. Dunn has never played, coached or scouted at the professional level. Don’t call it the Pecos League call it the Fantasy League for fantasy campers.

    • indyfan83

Nail on the head here. Pro Scout like your style. Pecos Struggles threw this season. With about 70 percent of players who have no right to be playing professional baseball. Hone run leader in league has 7. Revoling door of players, due to guys making 100 a week. Maybe one diamond in the rough gets signed to a Org. Pecos is a Graveyard for young ballplayers.

  20. Brian

The Pecos League is a go. They will have a 2011 season. I am looking forward to the Abilene neutral site series, as I will be working with the game day staff during the series, helping out where needed.

  21. jd

I Love the soap opera of this league. Any word on the Pecos League status. Website looks good, Well again so did SWSL site. Northern American Looks Legit, cant wait to fallow there season, and also see who pops up in the league.

    • Robert Ramsey

The SWSL site looked like about .42 cents. A free website looks like just that, a free website. Even the Pointstreak SWSL site was craptastic. A website doesn’t make a baseball league, but a bad one sure does hurt it’s credability.

      • Robert Ramsey

        Much as misspelling credibility does…..

      • RBI

Pointstreak was the only credible thing in that league – have to feel for them and any other vendors who got taken for the ride.

      • Robert Ramsey

I have a hard time trying to understand why any vendor/company would extend a service to an unknown quasi-pro baseball league in the first place. Every advertisement on the defunct SWSL site showed the vender’s to be partnered with the SWSL.. It would seem that Snider produced nothing other than empty promises, and any work was done by vendor, or staff. Neither being compensated.

      • indyfan83

Rumor has it league not done. Let ssee how this pans out in the next week or so.

  22. RBI

I am pretty sure a lot of vendors got hung out to dry on this one as well. Glad to see it’s finally over. Has anyone heard if Nate actually released a formal ‘Fail’ notice?

  23. Been Around

Sometimes one just sees the writing on the wall.

  24. Pro Scout

Maddock did not do his research and left staff hanging. His baseball credability is done in my book. Maddock must of been doing some work behind the scenes as he was just named the new manager in the North American League as a second team with play in Edinburg, Tx. Director of Baseball Operations in the SSL one day and a field manager in another league the next day. What a Joke!

  25. Brian

I am glad now that the league never did get off the ground.. I would have hated to see these communities get burned, making it difficult for others to follow. Nate Snyder’s name is completely runied in baseball… I could not imagine a league letting him in in any capacity. I will take some positives away from the SWSL, namely friendships with Steve Maddock and Richard Kemp, two stand up guys.

  26. Ryan Seeber

I was not aware of the Southwestern States League, but it should be dooley noted that it takes a lot of money, time, patience and proper ownership to make a league work. It does not hurt to have a decent ballpark in the mix as well, but we shall see more of these leagues popping up from now until the 20’s and beyond. I think the future for some these nascent leagues would be collegiete wood bat.

  27. Indy baller

Is anyone surprised, we all told you and some of those people would not give up, look at them now. Eggs all over there face
