They’re back! Yes, Bob Lipp and company have announced that a new indy pro league in the desert southwest will be known as the Southwestern League. As you might recall, Lipp’s Arizona-Mexico League folded just three weeks into the 2003 season. An effort was made to revive it under the name — you guessed it — the Southwestern League. It never got off the ground. Neither did Lipp’s revival of the Piedmont League out in the Carolinas nor the Sunset League, a proposed fall league in Mexico.
