Mountaineers Ballpark Construction Update
A new rendering of the Monongalia County Ballpark currently under construction for the West Virginia University Mountaineers baseball team (and possibly a Single-A New York-Penn League club) in Morgantown (WV) has surfaced. Mountaineers Play Last Game at Hawley Field, New Ballpark Under Construction
The West Virginia University Mountaineers closed out Hawley Field with 12-6 win over the University of Texas Longhorns Sunday before a crowd of 2,237 — the second-largest crowd ever to watch a game at the 44-year-old ballpark. WVU Approves Land Purchase for Stadium
Members of West Virginia University’s Board of Governors on Thursday unanimously approved the purchase of a seven-acre property for the university’s new baseball stadium, which is also expected to house a relocated Single-A club. The property is located near University Town Centre across the Monongahela River from Morgantown in Granville. Read more here.

Epling Stadium a Success
In an editorial, The Register-Herald.com in Beckley (WV) sings the praises of Epling Stadium, the privately-built home of the summer collegiate West Virginia Miners (Prospect League). In addition to high school games and tournaments, both Marshall University and West Virginia University will face foes at Epling during the 2013 season. Read more here.

Renderings of New WVU, Morgantown Ballpark Released
The renderings for the proposed new ballpark in Morgantown (WV) for the West Virginia University Mountaineers and possible minor league franchise have been released. View gallery here. The renderings were developed by Designstream, LLC in Pittsburgh, which also designed CONSOL Energy Park, home of the indy pro Washington Wild Things (Frontier League).

County Approves Ballpark Funding Plan
The Monongalia County (WV) Commission voted unanimously Wednesday to approve using tax-increment financing (TIF) to fund a new ballpark for the West Virginia University baseball program and potentially a minor-league team. The TIF plan still faces a public hearing on June 27 and must be approved by the state legislature, which could happen before the end of summer. Read more here. Thanks to Joe Mock for the link.

WVU Wants TIF Funds for New Ballpark
As reported earlier, a developer responsible for the largest shopping complex in Morgantown (WV) has plans for a new ballpark at University Town Center in Granville (WV). It appears that West Virginia University is a part of those talks, as the Mountaineers would like to see the use of tax increment financing (TIF) to help fund the project. Read more here.
