Pittsfield Suns Hire Lieberman as New GM

PRESS RELEASE – The Pittsfield Suns and the Goldklang Group on Monday announced that Michael Lieberman has been named the team’s new general manager. A 25-year veteran of the sports industry, Lieberman has served as a general manager in summer collegiate baseball for 11 seasons. He has also held leadership positions in both affiliated and independent professional baseball.

Expansion Suns Strong in Home Opener, Look to Keep Momentum Rolling Tonight at Wahconah

The summer collegiate Pittsfield Suns (Futures Collegiate Baseball League) had a successful inaugural home opener on Thursday night in front of 2,261 fans at vintage Wahconah Park.  Read more and watch video here.  The Suns play their second home game tonight.

New Logo, Website for Pittsfield Suns

The expansion summer collegiate Pittsfield Suns (Futures Collegiate Baseball League) have a new logo and website at www.pittsfieldsuns.com.  The team begins play at historic Wahconah Park on June 7 against the Nashua Silver Knights.

Pittsfield Chooses FCBL, Goldklang Group

Old Orchard Beach Team Headed to Pittsfield?

After one season at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach (ME), it appears the summer collegiate Old Orchard Beach Raging Tide (NECBL) might be headed to Pittsfield (MA).  A group in Pittsfield is reportedly in negotiations to buy the team.  This would appear to finalize the demise of the indy pro Pittsfield Colonials (Can-Am League).  Read more here and here.  Thanks to John Cerone for the links.

Commissioner Wants Colonials to Remain in Pittsfield, Trois Rivieres on Deck

Colonials Promise to Stay in Pittsfield (for 2011 Season)

Petition to Rename Wahconah Park

A petition is being circulated to rename historic Wahconah Park after former city council member and Pittsfield Red Sox pitcher Paul Dowd.  The proposed name would be “Paul Dowd Field at Wahconah Park.”  Dowd, who has been battling Lou Gehrig’s Disease the past two years, has been very active in the Pittsfield community and a big supporter and fundraiser for the Berkshire County Jimmy Fund.  Read more here.
