An entertainment district right next to TD Ameritrade Park, home of the College World Series, is one step closer from happening. The Omaha (NE) city council approved an agreement with MECA establishing development guidelines, which will regulate just how the city moves ahead with the project at Lot B downtown. Read more here.

College World Series Well Underway in Omaha
After home teams dominated the Super Regionals at a historic rate, the higher-seeded teams went 4-0 to begin the College World Series. NCAA to Allow Beer and Wine Stadium-Wide at CWS
For the first time, beer and wine will be sold to fans in TD Ameritrade Park’s main concourse and grandstand sections on the club level during the College World Series. Writer Blasts CWS Ballpark, But Is Blame Misplaced?
The News & Observer staff columnist Luke DeCock lays blame on TD Ameritrade Park for the lack of home runs in the College World Series tournament. While proclaiming the stadium has damaged the CWS, DeCock admits TD Ameritrade was built with the same dimensions as old Rosenblatt Stadium, and the NCAA tweaked college bats two years ago to mimic their less powerful wooden counterparts. CWS Fans Warned to Stay Off the Field
Fed up with fans interrupting College World Series games by running onto the field during play, Roger Dixon, president of the Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority, issued a stern warning Wednesday to anyone tempted to jump the fence this year that he or she will be prosecuted to the fullest extent. Trespassers could face six months in jail and a $500 fine. Read more here.

Omaha’s New Ballparks: Success in 2011, All Eyes on 2012
The two new baseball stadiums in the Omaha (NE) metro had successful inaugural seasons in 2011. Nebraska Tax Commissioner Throws Wrench into Publicly-Financed Projects
According to a recent advisory by the Nebraska state tax commissioner, any property not actually owned by a government entity is subject to property taxes. This presents a serious problem for communities that use nonprofit leasing corporations to issue tax-free bonds to fund capital projects like Omaha’s TD Ameritrade Park and Sarpy County’s Werner Park. Gamecocks Forever Etched in Ballpark History
The South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the Florida Gators this evening to win back-to-back College World Series titles. The primary historical significance here from our persepctive? The Gamecocks retired Rosenblatt Stadium last year and christened the new TD Ameritrade Park this year. Now that’s extra icing on the championship cake for the Gamecocks baseball program.

ESPN Takes CWS Coverage to New Level
With the opening of fancy new, high-tech TD Ameritrade Park, ESPN has “amped up” its coverege of the college world series, according to coordinating producer T0m McNeeley. Creighton Open House at TD Ameritrade Last Night, Opening Day Today
An estimated 3,000 people showed up at TD Ameritrade Park Monday evening for Creighton University’s open house, and fans appeared to come away impressed. From what little bit we could see of the stadium bowl in a photo appearing in the Omaha paper this morning, it looks pretty sweet.
