Tampa Yankess Announce $40 Million in Renovations for George M. Steinbrenner Field

Council Closes Book on Proposed Ocala Ballpark

Marion County Delays Vote on Ballpark Financing Plan

Tampa Yankees LogoFacing public heat on a proposal to put a sales tax hike on the countywide ballot for March 18 to pay for a $53 million ballpark to attract the Single-A Tampa Yankees (Florida State League) to Orlando, Marion County commissioners agreed to postpone their decision to work on another way to finance the project.  Read more and watch news report here.

Ocala Asks County to Put Ballpark Sales Tax on Ballot

Plans Unveiled to Bring Tampa Yankees to Ocala

Yankees Want Their Name Back?

While working to divest themselves of their minor league affiliates, the New York Yankees apparently want to keep their brand solely for themselves. According to Jim Timlin, chairman of the Lackawanna County Stadium Authority board, the Yankees have “recommended” that the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Yankees get a new nickname. Negotiations for Orlando Ballpark Must Wait Until January

Efforts by Armando Gutierrez, Jr. and his group Baseball Enterprises LLC to advance a new 6,500-seat, $20 million ballpark plan in Orlando (FL) for the Single-A Tampa Yankees have been parked for now.  Because the parties have been so far apart in negotiations, Orange County Mayor Rich Crotty decided to punt the issue until his replacement, Teresa Jacobs, is sworn in on January 4.  Read more here.

Yankees Issue Statement About Single-A Tampa Club

After rumors surfaced that the New York Yankees were going to sell all or part of the Single-A Tampa Yankees to a group of investors who would relocate the team to a proposed new ballpark in Orange County/Orlando, the parent club issued a statement.  While MLB.com reporter Alden Gonzalez’s interpretation of the statement was that the Single-A club is not moving, that’s not what we read.  Thanks to Andrew Moon for the Gonzalez article.

Businessman Looking to Snag Tampa Yankees for Orlando

Businessman Armando Gutierrez, Jr. is talking with the New York Yankees about buying a piece of the Florida State League’s Tampa Yankees and moving the club into a proposed new ballpark in Orlando.  A baseball-themed museum would be part of the ballpark project.  Read more here.
