Speculating About MLB in Vegas

It was reported earlier this summer that officials in Henderson (NV) were quietly trying to lure the Arizona Diamondbacks from Phoenix (AZ), where efforts to build a new major league ballpark have stalled. And that was before Las Vegas Ballpark was christened and the Las Vegas Aviators (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League) began obliterating attendance records.  Read more here.

Aviators Open New Ballpark in Front of 11,036, Introduce Mascots

The Las Vegas Aviators (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League) opened their new ballpark in Summerlin (NV) Tuesday night in front of a crowd of 11,036. They also introduced two new mascots — Spruce the Goose and Mr. Aviator. Read more and watch news report here. New Las Vegas Ballpark Now Has Grass

Grass was laid down at the Las Vegas Ballpark Thursday, just weeks before the Las Vegas Aviators (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League) are scheduled to start playing there.  Opening day is April 9 when the Aviators will play Sacramento at 7:05 p.m.  Read more here.

Las Vegas Ballpark Construction – VIDEO

267-Room Hotel Coming to New Summerlin Ballpark Complex, New Team Branding Coming Saturday

Summerlin (NV) developer Howard Hughes Corp. has laid out plans for a 14-story, 267-room hotel just south of the new ballpark currently under construction for the soon-to-be-renamed Las Vegas 51s (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League).  The 4.3-acre project, on Pavilion Center Drive across from the company’s open-air Downtown Summerlin mall, would include a restaurant, rooftop bar and spa.  Read more and see photo here.  Meanwhile, the team will unveil its new name and logos this coming Saturday.  Read more here.

Las Vegas Ballpark Sales Center Opens in Summerlin

A grand opening for the Las Vegas Ballpark sales center was held on Wednesday.  The festivities included a ballpark-branded doughnut wall, baseball-themed snacks and refreshments, the Las Vegas 51s (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League) mascot Cosmo (wearing Oakland Athletics gear), and more.  Fans had the opportunity to view plans for the ballpark with staff assisting them in selecting and purchasing tickets for the 2019 season.  Read more and watch news report here.

The Las Vegas 51s (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League) first announced plans to rebrand for next season in April.  Now, one of the frontrunners appears to have been identified.  The owners of the team have filed 20 different trademarks applications for what appears to be a potential new name for the club — the Las Vegas Aviators.  Read more here.

51s Break Ground on New Ballpark

Construction on the new ballpark for the Las Vegas 51s (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League) is officially underway.  A groundbreaking ceremony was held at the site in Summerlin (NV) on Friday to mark a new era for the franchise that has played its games at now-outdated Cashman Field since it opened in 1983.  The new stadium is expected to open in 2019.  Read more and watch video here.

Las Vegas Ballpark Groundbreaking Set for Feb. 23

The Howard Hughes Corporation will break ground on the new, $150-million ballpark in Summerlin (NV) for the Las Vegas 51s (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League) on Feb. 23.  Read more here.  The ballpark will be located near City National Arena, the practice facility for the NHL’s Las Vegas Golden Knights.

Howard Hughes Corp. to Build New Summerlin Ballpark for 51s

Howard Hughes Corp., which acquired a controlling ownership interest in the Las Vegas 51s (Triple-A, Pacific Coast League) earlier this year, announced plans to build a 10,000-seat ballpark in downtown Summerlin (NV) that will break ground by early 2018 and be ready for the 2019 season.  Read more here.  As previously announced, the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority acquired naming rights for the stadium in a 20-year, $80 million deal.
