Phil Welch, Mustangs Host Tournament
Historic Phil Welch Stadium will play host to the NAIA Heart of America Athletic Conference baseball tournament on May 5-9. The tournment will feature the conferences top six teams. According to Dan Gerson, owner of the summer collegiate St. Joseph Mustangs, this is the first of a number of events that could come to Phil Welch. Other ballpark uses being explored include concerts and high school tournaments. Read more here.

Successful Return of Baseball in St. Joseph a Top Story
The newspaper in St. Joseph, MO has ranked the successful return of baseball to Phil Welch Stadium the #8 story of the year. The summer collegiate St. Joseph Mustangs averaged over 1,800 per game during the team’s inaugural season. Read more here. St. Joseph Mustangs Debut at #9 in Summer Collegiate Top 50
The 2009 inaugural season for the summer collegiate St. Joseph Mustangs of the MINK league was an impressive one at the gate. With a new team, a customer-focused attitude and fan-friendly improvements to historic Phil Welch Stadium that included a new party deck and patio area (see renderings from River Bluff Architecture), owner Dan Gerson revived a market that had been left for dead by the professional ranks. At 1,853 per game, the Mustangs nearly tripled the 643 mark that the defunct independent professional St. Joe Blacksnakes garnered in their final season in 2007. More from the St. Joe News.
