No Pecos League at Potter Memorial

Amarillo Sox Fire GM

Amarillo Sox LogoMark Lee, the nine-year general manager of the indy pro Amarillo Sox (American Association), confirmed Thursday that he has been fired by Southern Independent Baseball LLC (SIB), the owner of the Sox.  Lee said he was informed of the news in a face-to-face meeting with SIB Chairman of the Board Gary Elliston on Sept. 18.  Read more here.

AirHogs Acquired By Southern Independent Baseball

PRESS RELEASE – The Grand Prairie AirHogs announced today that the team has been acquired by Southern Independent Baseball L.L.C. New Amarillo Name This Week?

Dillas Seek Injunction

The United League’s Amarillo Dillas are seeking an injunction to prevent Potter County from leasing Potter County Memorial Stadium (Amarillo National Bank Dilla Villa) to Southern Independent Baseball.  Judge Dan Schaap heard arguments on Monday and expects to make a decision on the motion for a temporary restraining order this week.  Read more here.

Four Submit Bids to Use Amarillo Ballpark

Potter County (TX) has received four bids to lease Amarilllo National Bank Dilla Villa (Potter County Memorial Stadium), including Southern Independent Baseball (American Association), the new Pecos League, an unknown entity called Amarillo Community Baseball Club, and the recently evicted Amarillo Dillas.  The county commissioners are expected to make a final decision next month.  Read more here.

AirHogs, Cats in Berry’s Sights?

We already know Scott Berry, president of Southern Independent Baseball, which owns the American Association’s Shreveport-Bossier (LA) Captains, is gunning for the Amarillo market after the demise of the Dillas.  But that might not be all.  The drum beat of an older rumor seems to be growing louder that Berry is also interested in acquiring the league’s Grand Prairie AirHogs and Fort Worth Cats.
