The University of Minnesota baseball team began practice this week at the new Siebert Field. The natural grass playing surface has been replaced with field turf. The University of Minnesota is scheduled to break ground this afternoon on a new ballpark to replace deteriorating Siebert Field for the Golden Gophers baseball team. Construction on the new 1,400-seat, $7.13 million facility is expected to begin June 18 and be completed before the end of the year. Red more here.
The University of Minnesota Golden Gophers baseball team played their last game at Siebert last night in front of a crowd of 1,421 fans and old-timers who came back to say goodbye. Siebert has been the home for the Gophers for the past 41 seasons. Construction is expected to begin soon on a new $7.5 million replacement. Read more here and here.
It’s been a long time coming, but the Universityof Minnesota issued a request for proposal last week soliciting design-build services for the development of a $7.5 million ballpark for the Golden Gophers. Proposals are due by Jan. 27. The facility, which will have artificial turf, is being targeted for completion by the end of this year. The Gophers currently play at 40-year-old Siebert Field.
