Boulton’s Goal to Return Baseball to Atlantic City

For a decade, the Atlantic City Surf (Independent Professional, Atlantic League/Can-Am League) called Sandcastle Stadium home.  Since the team folded after the 2008 season, the site has sat vacant except for the occasional college or Babe Ruth league game.  This could soon change, as former Surf owner Frank Boulton wants to bring baseball back to the ballpark.  Read more here.  Thanks to John Cerone for the link.

Baseball Returns to The Sandcastle

Baseball is back at Sandcastle Stadium, the former home of the indy pro Atlantic City Surf (Atlantic League/Can-Am League).  The once-deteriorating ballpark is playing host to the Babe Ruth 14-year-old Middle Atlantic Regional tournament starting yesterday through August 8.  With spruced up turf and Babe Ruth baseball logos stenciled into both sides of the field, the ballpark that fell into disrepair

No Labor Day Weekend Ball for Atlantic City?

A Labor Day weekend series at The Sandcastle in Atlantic City (NJ) between the indy pro Atlantic League’s Camden Riversharks and Sugar Land Skeeters appears to be no go, as promoter Mario Perrucci says he won’t sign a contract until needed facility repairs are completed.  Read more here.  Thanks to John Cerone for the link.

The Sandcastle to be Renamed Surf Stadium

Signaling a new day for baseball in Atlantic City (NJ), the city council is expected to vote Wednesday to change the name of Sandcastle Stadium, former home of the indy pro Atlantic City Surf (Atlantic League/Can-Am League), to Surf Stadium.  Officals are also expected to award a contract to Georgia Golf Construction, Inc. to install new turf and improve the infield.  Read more here.

The Sandcastle to Host Riversharks, Skeeters

With an eye toward potentially fielding a full-time team in Atlantic City beginning in 2013, Atlantic League CEO Frank Boulton announced Wednesday that the Camden Riversharks and first-year Sugarland Skeeters will play a three-game series at Sandcastle Stadium on Labor Day weekend, if the city can restore the playing field in time.  Read more here.

More Restoration Dollars Approved for The Sandcastle

The Atlantic City Council voted unanimously Wednesday to approve $800,000 in bonding for turf restoration, roof repairs, and seating area improvements at Sandcastle Stadium, former home of the indy pro Atlantic City Surf (Atlantic League/Can-Am League).  Let’s hope this eventually leads to a new era of baseball at a ballpark.  Read more here and here.  Thanks to John Cerone for the links.

Fee Schedule Approved for The Sandcastle

The Atlantic City Council voted on Wednesday to establish a fee schedule for those who wish to rent resuscitated Sandcastle Stadium.  There will be a flat, attendance-based rate imposed (we’re still searching for the actual schedule) plus 10 percent of advanced tickets sales and 25 percent of tickets purchased at the gate.  Read more here.  Thanks to John Cerone for the link.

The Sandcastle to Get More TLC

Atlantic City plans to devote more resources to rehab Sandcastle Stadium, former home of the indy pro Atlantic City Surf.  Michael Scott, the city’s business administrator, stated the first order of business will be to install a facility manager, and clear out suites and offices that have sustained water damage.

Monorail, Waterpark on Deck for Sandcastle Stadium Area

A developer has presented an $848 million proposal to turn Bader Field into a family entertainment complex.  To compliment The Sandcastle, the former home for the Atlantic City Surf, which sits on the Bader property, the developer wants to build a waterpark, condos, restaurants, and a casino/bingo hall that would all be served by a monorail.  Read more and view aerial photo here.  Thanks to John Cerone for the link.

‘The Sandcastle’ Reopens for Business

Sandcastle Cleanup On Schedule for Dave Matthews Concert
