NASA Goddard Space Flight Center geologist Noah Petro will be heading to Oregon soon to officiate the nation’s first baseball eclipse game delay at the home of the Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (Single-A, Northwest League) on Aug. 21. Jerry Walker, owner of the Single-A Salem-Keizer Volcanoes (Northwest League), has been hired as the athletic director of St. John Bosco High School in Silverton (OR). The school opened in 2009 and will be launching its first athletic program starting with basketball this season. Read more here.
The Single-A Salem-Keizer (OR) Volcanoes have seen a 27 percent increase in attendance after the team’s first eight home games compared to last season. It’s argued that this uptick is due to fans of the former Triple-A Portland Beavers (now Tucson Padres), who are traveling down to Salem because they no longer have a team to root for in the Rose City.
