Washoe County, Aces Ballpark Owners Still Haggling Over Deliquent Tax Bill

Reno Council Approves Ballpark Refinancing Deal, Ball Now in Washoe County’s Court
The Reno (NV) City Council on Wednesday vote 5-2 to approve a $30 million reworked deal to refinance Aces Ballpark, home of the Triple-A Reno Aces (Pacific Coast League). The subsidy must still be approved by the Washoe County Commission, which has so far balked at the proposal. Read more here.

Comparing the Triple-A Stadium Deals
As El Paso takes steps to bring Triple-A baseball to downtown, ABC-7 compares the terms of the city’s proposed stadium deal with ballpark agreements in Albuquerque (NM) and Reno (NV). The Triple-A Albuquerque Isotopes (Pacific Coast League) pay out a whopping $1.6 to $2 million each year to their host city, but El Paso Deputy City Manger Bill Studer doesn’t believe that’s feasible for El Paso. Washoe County (NV) says that the Triple-A Reno Aces owe $718,717 in unpaid property taxes on the land on which Aces Ballpark sits, but the Aces argue that the taxes have not been paid because they are awaiting a decision by the Nevada Board of Equalization in a dispute over the county assessor’s valuation of the property.
