PA Announcer Threatens to Quit Over Name Change, R-Phils Announce Tryouts for New Voice

R-Phils to Give Away Crazy Hot Dog Vendor Tooth Brush Holder

Thanks to Ehrlich Pest Control (yes, a pest control sponsor), the Double-A Reading Phillies (Eastern League) will be giving away a Crazy Hot Dog Vendor Tooth Brush Holder to the first 2,000 kids 14 for the game on July 15 at 1:35 p.m.  Redner’s Kids Club members will receive a free ticket and be invited to hit a ball from home plate starting at 11:00 a.m.  Read more here.

Ballpark Not the Problem in Lackawanna County

Minor league baseball executives from Bill Terlecky to Chuck Domino don’t believe replacing PNC Field with a new ballpark will necessarily fix the attendance problems for the Triple-A Wilkes-Barre Yankees (now Empire State Yankees) (International League).  We completely agree.  The lack of fan support stems from the team’s management, operations, and fan experience.  Read more here.

Making the Case for Reading

The City of Reading (PA) was left off the “Our Best Sports Cities, from 1-271,” rankings published by the Sporting News earlier this month, and Mike McGovern from the Reading Eagle newspaper isn’t happy about it.  We have to agree with him.  How can you possibly create a legitimate list of the best sports cities in America without taking into consideration the existence of minor league teams?  Read more here.
