Artificial Turf Installation on Schedule at QU Stadium

Gems Ballpark to Get Artificial Infield

Quincy Gems LogoQuincy University has announced plans to completely renovate historic QU Stadium — home of QU baseball, the summer collegiate Quincy Gems (Prospect League) and future home of QU football — with a $4 million investment.  The football field will be a complete renovation.  The baseball field will get an artificial turf infield.  Read more and view renderings here.

Quincy Gems Have New Owners, Changes Anticipated

Quincy Gems LogoNow that a group of locals stepped up to buy the summer collegiate Quincy Gems (Prospect League) for a reported $120,000, talk now turns toward the changes that could be coming to the team and their historic ballpark.  One of the changes mentioned is bringing the restrooms up to standard.  They indeed need fixing.  Below is a picture from our visit in 2013.  Read more here.

Quincy Gems Being Sold to Party Yet to be Named

Quincy Gems LogoThe Quincy Civic Center Authority has agreed to execute a purchase agreement with an undisclosed party to buy the summer collegiate Quincy Gems (Prospect League).  The authority approved the deal after emerging from a short closed session during its monthly meeting last Wednesday afternoon.  Read more here.

Gems Still for Sale

Quincy Gems LogoWhile negotiations with potential ownership groups have been ongoing since the financially troubled summer collegiate Quincy Gems (Prospect League) were put on the market by the Quincy Civic Center Authority in October, no group has stepped up to the plate to purchase the franchise.  The authority will continue prepare for the start of the 2014 season with the team still on the market.  Read more here.

Losses Spur Sale of Quincy Gems, Miners Owner Questions Lack of Profitability

TQuincy Gems Logohe summer collegiate Quincy Gems (Prospect League), owned by the Oakley-Lindsay Civic Center Board, are for sale after reporting $76,000 in losses.  The owner of the league’s West Virginia Miners is puzzled by the Gems’ finances.  He says there is no reason why the Gems shouldn’t be turning a profit.  If the 921 per game average attendance the team reported in 2013 is accurate, we have to wonder too.  Read more here.

Quincy Gems Lose Over $20K, Heat Blamed

The summer collegiate Quincy Gems (Prospect League) reportedly lost over $23,000 during the 2012 season.  The drop in attendance and revenue is being blamed on the hot temperatures this past summer, which negatively impacted food and beers sales and corporate sponsorship nights.  Read more here.  The team averaged 908 per game in 2012.

Quincy Gems Attendance Up, Future of Club Uncertain

The summer collegiate Quincy Gems (Prospect League) have ended up in the red the last two seasons, but team operators are hopeful that this year’s increase in attendance of 100 per game over last season will allow the team to continue operating.  Read more here.

Prospect, Four Other Leagues Dropped from NACSB

The summer collegiate Prospect League and reportedly four others have been dropped by the National Alliance of College Summer Baseball because some teams in those leagues operate as profit-making entities.  Apparently, the NACSB’s bylaws require that teams be nonprofit organizations.
