End of An Era: Demolition of Loeb Stadium Underway

It’s the end of an era as demolition crews began tearing down Loeb Stadium Wednesday morning.  The new stadium is on schedule to be finished by the end of 2020.  The Lafayette Aviators (Summer Collegiate, Prospect League) will play their 2020 home games at Purdue’s Alexander Field.  Their first season at the new Loeb Stadium will start in the spring of 2021.  Read more and watch video here.

Purdue Trustees Name New Ballpark

The Purdue University Board of Trustees announced today that the university’s new $10.3 million baseball stadium will be named Alexander Field, in honor of the parents of a former Purdue baseball coach.  The ballpark is expected to be completed in time for the 2012 season.  Read more and view rendering here.

Funds, Contract Approved for New Boilermakers’ Ballpark

The Purdue University Board of Trustees have approved funding for a new 2,500-seat, $21 million ballpark to replace 1,100-seat Lambert Field.  A construction contract with Indianapolis-based Shiel Sexton Co. was also approved for the project.  The stadium is expected to be completed by April 2012.  Read more hereView renderings hereView virtual tour here.
