The start-up Expedition League’s Pierre (SD) franchise will be known as the Pierre Trappers. The team’s logo was unveiled on Monday. The Trappers will begin play at Hyde Stadium in 2018. Read press release here.

The Pierre (SD) City Commission voted 5-0 at its Tuesday evening meeting to authorize Mayor Steve Harding to sign a five-year lease agreement for Hyde Stadium with the start-up Expedition League (Summer Collegiate). Post 8 in Pierre (SD) continues to raise the $1.6 to $1.8 million needed to complete the renovation of Hyde Stadium. Read more here. Based on architectural renderings here and here, the refurbished ballpark will include nearly 1,000 seats. Visit the Post 8 stadium renovation page here. With a population of only 16,000, it doesn’t appear Pierre would be an expansion target for the summer collegiate Northwoods League, but the coming new franchise in Bismarck (ND) will only be 3 1/2 hours away.
