Solar Power for Petco Park, No ‘Baby Poop’ Brown and Yellow Unis for Padres

San Diego Awarded 2016 MLB All-Star Game

37-Story Residential Tower Approved for San Diego’s Ballpark Village

Padres Unveil 2014 Promotional Schedule, Petco Park Upgrades on Tap

Longtime Broadcaster Memorialized at Petco Park

San Diego Padres New Logo 2011-2012A memorial service was held Saturday at Petco Park for Jerry Coleman, who served as broadcaster for the San Diego Padres for four decades.  Coleman, 89, died Jan. 5.  He won four World Series titles with the New York Yankees and was the only major leaguer who saw combat in both World War II and Korea, flying a combined 120 missions as a Marine Corps pilot.  Read more here.

PETA Group Uses Buy-A-Brick Guerrilla Messaging

When the folks from the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) couldn’t convince the San Diego Padres to drop pet-store chain PETCO as a ballpark sponsor or the Miami Marlins to reverse course on the aquariums behind home plate at the new Marlins Park, they used the teams’ buy-a-brick programs to get their message across.  Read more here

Giant Golf Club Unveiled at Petco Park

As part of an advertising deal with TaylorMade, the San Diego Padres attached an 80-foot, 950-pound model of the golf company’s R11 driver to the right-field foul pole at Petco Park.  Now, this sounds really nifty, but it falls short of the Eveleth (MN) standard.  While the shaft and grip part of the club is the real replica deal, the R11 head is merely a 14-foot-wide by eight-foot-tall image.  Read more and view video here.

Petco Park Delivers 7.6 Percent ROI

A report commissioned by the San Diego Regional Development Corp. indicates that the orginal $300 million development of Petco Park in downtown San Diego brought in a 7.6 percent annual rate of return on investment over the past 10 years, which far surpasses the original forcast of 1.7 percent.  Of course, there are those who dispute the study, which was done by Minnesota-based Conventions, Sports & Leisure.  Read more here.
