London City Council Approves Frontier League Baseball for Labatt

The London (ON) City Council voted 9-3 on Monday to approve a plan by Summit Professional Baseball to bring the former Oakland County Cruisers to Labatt Park for the 2012 season.  The London Majors, a local semi-pro team from the Intercounty Baseball League, is not happy about the deal and even started an online petition to block it.  Read more here and here.

Frontier League Back in London? (UPDATED)

On the heels of winning Canada’s Favourite Ballpark contest, historic Labatt Park in London (ON) could again host an indy pro Frontier League franchise.  It’s very preliminary, but a group from Illinois is reportedly exploring the market. McComb County Eyeing Former Cruisers

After Summit Professional Baseball pulled the plug on placing the former Oakland County Cruisers (Frontier League) in Clawson (MI), McComb County Executive Mark Hackel said he would like to help the owners find a home for the team in nearby McComb County.  Read more here.

No Frontier League Baseball in Clawson

Summit Professional Baseball, which purchased the rights to the indy pro Frontier League’s former Oakland County Cruisers, have withdrawn a $1 million proposal to renovate Clawson (MI) City Park, amidst questions and concerns raised during a four-hour public hearing on Tuesday night.  Read more here.

Ex-Cruisers to Clawson?

Cruisers Under New Management, Future of Franchise Still Uncertain

Rob Hillard, president of the Frontier League’s Oakland County Cruisers, has transfered ownership of the franchise to 0bstetrician and gynocologist Dr. Othman Kadry.  As you may recall, the Cruisers went dormant for the 2011 season and were assessed a $25,000 dormant fee by the league.  Kadry will have until September 15 to inform the league of his plans for 2012.  Funding for a new Continue reading

Groundbreaking Set for New Frontier League Ballpark in Michigan

Oakland County CruisersThe groundbreaking for the new $8.5 million ballpark in Waterford Township, MI is set for Thursday, at 3:30 p.m., behind the Summit Plance Mall.  The stadium, called The Diamond at the Summit, will host a relocated team from the independent Frontier League that will be known as the Oakland County Cruisers.  The team currently operates as the Midwest Sliders at Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti.  Read more here.
