Bristol Blues Move from Futures League to NECBL

The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) announced on Thursday morning that it would be adding a franchise for the second straight year.  The Bristol Blues will apparently replace the New Bedford Bay Sox to keep the league’s lineup at 13 teams.  The Bay Sox logo no longer appears in the header of the NECBL’s website.  Read more hereRead press release here.

Gulls to Host 2020 NECBL All-Star Game, Celebrate 20 Seasons in Newport

The Newport Gulls will host the 2020 New England Collegiate Baseball All-Star Game in July. It will mark the fourth time is franchise history Cardines Field has hosted the league’s showcase game. Read more here. The team will also be celebrating 20 season in the City by the Sea. Watch video below:

M.V. Sharks in Legal Battle Over Plans to Depart Futures League for NECBL

Pilgrims Cease Operations

After six summers, the Plymouth Pilgrims (Summer Collegiate, New England Collegiate Baseball League) have ceased operations.  The Pilgrims reportedly averaged 366 fans per game in 2018.  Team President Peter Plant estimated he has $15,000 worth of signage, uniforms, bats, balls and other baseball equipment he’d like to pass along to a new ownership group or another worthy organization.  Read more here.

Mariano Rivera, Jr. to Play for Muskrats

Laconia Muskrats LogoWe don’t typically report on players, but we found it interesting that Mariano Rivera, Jr., son of retired New York Yankees star reliever Mariano Rivera, will be playing for the summer collegiate Laconia Muskrats (New England Collegiate Baseball League) this summer.  The 20-year-old Rivera is a sophomore at Iona College in New Rochelle (NY).  Read more here.

Muskrats’ Owners Look to Add Second Franchise

NECBL LogoThe owners of the summer collegiate Laconia Muskrats (New England Collegiate Baseball League) are looking to launch a second franchise in Lebanon (NH), if an outfield-fence problem at the targeted field can be worked out with Lebanon High School.  Alternative options are also being explored in nearby Hartford and Norwich (VT).  The owners face a Nov. 1 league deadline to finalize field plans.  Read more here.

Muskrats to Host All-Star Game

Laconia Muskrats LogoThe summer collegiate Laconia Muskrats (New England Collegiate Baseball League) will host the 2013 NECBL All-Star Game on July 21, 2013.  As an interesting side note, you might recall that the Muskrats installed a 17 foot tall by 88 feet long replica of Fenway Park’s Green Monster at Robbie Mills Field last season.  The second phase of the project to be completed before next season will include adding a viewing deck to the back of the wall.  Read more here.

Saratoga Phillies Are Back, Join NECBL
