NECBL Announces Cancellation of 2020 Season

PRESS RELEASE – The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) has announced that its board of directors, comprised of executives from its 13 member teams and officers, have voted to cancel the 2020 summer collegiate baseball season.

Muskrats Name Hough GM

The Winnipesaukee Muskrats (Summer Collegiate, New England Collegiate Baseball League) have selected Carey Hough as their new general manager.  Read more here.

Bristol Blues Move from Futures League to NECBL

The New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL) announced on Thursday morning that it would be adding a franchise for the second straight year.  The Bristol Blues will apparently replace the New Bedford Bay Sox to keep the league’s lineup at 13 teams.  The Bay Sox logo no longer appears in the header of the NECBL’s website.  Read more here.  Read press release here.

Gulls to Host 2020 NECBL All-Star Game, Celebrate 20 Seasons in Newport

The Newport Gulls will host the 2020 New England Collegiate Baseball All-Star Game in July. It will mark the fourth time is franchise history Cardines Field has hosted the league’s showcase game. Read more here. The team will also be celebrating 20 season in the City by the Sea. Watch video below:

M.V. Sharks in Legal Battle Over Plans to Depart Futures League for NECBL

The Martha’s Vineyard Sharks (Summer Collegiate) Futures Collegiate Baseball League) are mired in a court dispute with the Futures Collegiate Baseball League over the club’s plans to switch to the New England Collegiate Baseball League next summer.  Read more here.

Pilgrims Cease Operations

After six summers, the Plymouth Pilgrims (Summer Collegiate, New England Collegiate Baseball League) have ceased operations.  The Pilgrims reportedly averaged 366 fans per game in 2018.  Team President Peter Plant estimated he has $15,000 worth of signage, uniforms, bats, balls and other baseball equipment he’d like to pass along to a new ownership group or another worthy organization.  Read more here.

Blue Sox to Host 2018 NECBL All-Star Game

PRESS RELEASE – The Valley Blue Sox officially announced that they will play host to the 2018 NECBL All Star Game this summer on Sunday, July 29, 2018 at Mackenzie Stadium in Holyoke.

NECBL Partnering with Stretch Internet to Live-Stream Games

The New England Collegiate Baseball League is pleased to announce that it has signed a multi-year partnership with Stretch Internet for the latter to serve as the official broadcasting home of the league beginning with the 2018 season, as announced today.

SteepleCats Unveil New Look

The North Adams SteepleCats (Summer Collegiage, New England Collegiate Baseball League) are relaunching with a new look, a new attitude and new leadership. Muskrats Get Beer

With scant discussion and one dissenting vote, the City Council approved the request of the Winnipesaukee Muskrats (Summer Collegiate, New England Collegiate Baseball League) to offer beer and wine, along with hamburgers and hot dogs from the grill, at all home games at Robbie Mills Field during the 2016 season.  Read more here.

Gulls to Host 2016 NECBL All-Star Game, Unveil Logo

PRESS RELEASE – The Newport Gulls will kick off an expanded 44-game schedule this June, hosting 22 home games and the 2016 NECBL All-Star Game at Cardines Field throughout the summer.

Muskrats Seeking Beer and Wine Sales

As the Winnipesaukee Muskrats (Summer Collegiate, New England Collegiate Baseball League) ready for their seventh season, general manager Kristian Svindland this week asked the Parks and Recreation Commission to permit the sale of beer and wine at home games played at Robbie Mills Field.  Read more here.

NECBL Adds the ‘Upper Valley Nighthawks’

NECBL Adds Hartford (VT) to 2016 Lineup

PRESS RELEASE – For the first time in league history, the New England Collegiate Baseball League will welcome a franchise to the Upper Connecticut River Valley region of New Hampshire and Vermont, as Hartford, Vermont, will become home of the NECBL’s 13th franchise in 2016, the league announced on Friday.

Masse Hired as Gulls Broadcaster

PRESS RELEASE – The Newport Gulls have hired Rob Masse to be the team’s broadcaster and deputy director of media relations, according to General Manager Chuck Paiva. Masse will take over lead play-by-play duties from long-time broadcast icon Nick Lima, who is staying on as director of media relations and will continue to work in an on-air capacity this summer.

Mariano Rivera, Jr. to Play for Muskrats

We don’t typically report on players, but we found it interesting that Mariano Rivera, Jr., son of retired New York Yankees star reliever Mariano Rivera, will be playing for the summer collegiate Laconia Muskrats (New England Collegiate Baseball League) this summer.  The 20-year-old Rivera is a sophomore at Iona College in New Rochelle (NY).  Read more here.

Pilgrims Add Seven Locals to Ownership Group

The second-year summer collegiate Plymouth Pilgrims (New England Collegiate Baseball League) have added seven locals to the existing ownership.  Joining team president David Dittman and GM Chris Patsos are Brian Nolan, Brian Faghan, Robert Ryan, Dan Shaughnessy, Cabby Brini, Mike Guimares and Joe Ricci.  Read more here.

Mainers Announce New Broadcasting and Media Chief

PRESS RELEASE – The Mainers are excited to announce their new Director of Broadcasting and Media, Jeff Bowe. Bowe, 29, graduated from San Jose State University with a B.A. in Communication Studies and has since worked for the California Winter League as a baseball broadcaster, stat keeper and P.A. announcer in Palm Springs.

Blue Sox to Host 2014 NECBL All-Star Game, Unveil Logo

PRESS RELEASE – The Holyoke Blue Sox will host the 2014 NECBL All-Star Game on Sunday, July 20, and in addition the team unveiled the logo it will use for the event, it was announced today by Blue Sox Owner and President Clark Eckhoff.

Holyoke Blue Sox Name New GM

PRESS RELEASE – The Blue Sox today named Hunter Golden as the team’s new General Manager. Owner & President Clark Eckhoff made the announcement on behalf of the organization. NECBL Expansion to Lebanon (NH) Delayed Until 2015

Muskrats’ Owners Look to Add Second Franchise

The owners of the summer collegiate Laconia Muskrats (New England Collegiate Baseball League) are looking to launch a second franchise in Lebanon (NH), if an outfield-fence problem at the targeted field can be worked out with Lebanon High School.  Alternative options are also being explored in nearby Hartford and Norwich (VT).  The owners face a Nov. 1 league deadline to finalize field plans.  Read more here.

Muskrats to Host All-Star Game

The summer collegiate Laconia Muskrats (New England Collegiate Baseball League) will host the 2013 NECBL All-Star Game on July 21, 2013.  As an interesting side note, you might recall that the Muskrats installed a 17 foot tall by 88 feet long replica of Fenway Park’s Green Monster at Robbie Mills Field last season.  The second phase of the project to be completed before next season will include adding a viewing deck to the back of the wall.  Read more here.
