Boise State Hires Ballpark Contractor, Targets March 2021 Opening

Boise State University in Boise (ID) has selected the Gardner Company as the contractor for its on-campus baseball stadium. The school is “shooting” for the stadium to open in March 2021, the second season for the revived Boise State baseball program.  Read more and watch video here.

Boise State Back to Building Own On-Campus Ballpark

Boise State University will have baseball on its own campus after all.  On Tuesday, the university announced it won’t join a public-private partnership between the city of Boise and Atlanta-based developer Chris Schoen to build a sports park in the city’s West End, choosing instead to build a stadium south of its campus.  Read more here and here.

Vote May Not Be Necessary for New Boise Ballpark, Broncos Unveil Inaugural Unis

Boise officials might change the way the city would pay for the proposed new main library and sports stadium to avoid putting the projects on the ballot this November.  Boiseans could vote on them anyway.  Read more here.  Meanwhile, the Boise State Broncos baseball team, potential future co-tenants of the new stadium, have unveiled the uniforms they will wear when they return to action in 2020, after a four-decade hiatus.  Read more and watch video here.

Boise State Acquires Property for New Baseball Stadium

Just before Christmas, Boise State announced it has secured two key pieces of land needed for a ballpark on the southern edge of its campus that will bring baseball back to the university for the first time since the program played its last game in 1980.  Read more here.

Three Developers Vying to Build Boise State’s New Ballpark

Boise State University hopes to debut a new ballpark in time for the 2020 baseball season.  The school is currently deciding on a partner for development and construction.  Three firms responded to a request for information from the school to help make the project a reality.  Read more here.

Boise State Gets Go Ahead to Design Ballpark for Return of Baseball in 2020

Boise State University got approval from the state Board of Education late last week to spend $500,000 on planning and design for a new baseball stadium on campus that will cost a total of $8 million to $10 million and open for play in 2020.  Read more here.  Learn about stadium site here.

Boise State Ramping Up Ballpark Project (with Blue Turf?), Return of Baseball

Gary Van Tol, Boise State’s baseball coach, would love to see blue turf at the new baseball stadium.  He’s even looking at dirt that has an orange tint to really drive home the university’s signature branding.  Plans are being drawn up for the facility and the first players will be arriving on campus this fall.  Read more here.

Boise State Takes Next Baseball Steps

Boise State University on Tuesday officially announced Van Tol as their first baseball coach since disbanding the sport in 1980.  He inherits extra challenges as the Mountain West Conference member tries to found a program in time for the 2020 season, including building a stadium, fundraising, hiring a coaching staff, setting a schedule, and recruiting.  It sounds like a unique-colored ballpark turf is an option.  Read more and watch news report here.

Boise State Picks Location for Ballpark

Boise State plans to build a ballpark for its added baseball program north of the intersection of Beacon Street and Grant Avenue.  The university announced late last month it was withdrawing from the effort to build a Downtown Boise baseball stadium that would house the Boise Hawks (Single-A, Northwest League).  That effort continues without the Broncos.  Read more and view location here.

Debating the Proposed New Ballpark in Boise, Comparisons to Fort Wayne

As previously reported, the managing partner of the Boise Hawks (Single-A, Northwest League) is poised to buy 11 acres in Downtown Boise (ID), part of which he would donate to the city for the construction of a 5,000-seat, multisport stadium and event center.  The stadium would be the new home for the Hawks, revived Boise State baseball, and a soccer team.  Read more here.

Aztecs Unveil Remodeled Clubhouse

San Diego University Aztecs LogoSan Diego State University unveiled the Aztec’s renovated clubhouse at Tony Gwynn Stadium last week.  It’s not quite the Taj Mahal of baseball locker rooms, but as junior second basemen Tim Zier stated, “it’s so clean and professional-looking.”  Read more hereView photo gallery here.
