Relocated, Rebranded Black Bears Open Inaugural Season in New Morgantown Ballpark
The West Virginia Black Bears (Single-A, New York-Penn League) kicked off their inaugural season in their new $21 million home Friday night in front of a reported crowd of 3,019. Read more here. View photos here. The former Jamestown Jammers relocated to Morgantown (WV) from New York after the 2014 season. The Bears share Monongalia County Ballpark with the University of West Virginia baseball team.
Mountaineers Ballpark Construction Update
A new rendering of the Monongalia County Ballpark currently under construction for the West Virginia University Mountaineers baseball team (and possibly a Single-A New York-Penn League club) in Morgantown (WV) has surfaced. Mountaineers Play Last Game at Hawley Field, New Ballpark Under Construction
The West Virginia University Mountaineers closed out Hawley Field with 12-6 win over the University of Texas Longhorns Sunday before a crowd of 2,237 — the second-largest crowd ever to watch a game at the 44-year-old ballpark.
