Dynamite Brings Down Parts of Metrodome

Minnesota Twins Minnie and Paul LogoThe ring beam and corners of the Metrodome, former home of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, were brought down Sunday morning with 84 charges of dynamite set in 24 columns of the upper concourse.  Using explosives to take down the facility was not part of the original demolition plan, but safety concerns forced explosive action.  Read more and watch explosion video here.

Rendering Shows Gophers Playing at New Vikings Stadium

Minnesota Golden Gophers M LogoRenderings of the new Minnesota Vikings stadium were unveiled on Monday, including one showing the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers playing on the stadium’s versatile playing surface.  During bad weather in the spring, the Gophers will play their home games at the glacier-looking facility.

Football, Baseball Seating Design Approved for New Vikings Stadium

Minnsota Golden Gophers Mascot LogoAfter a nearly month-long impasse that threatened to delay construction of the new stadium for the NFL’s Minnesota Vikings, a deal was approved Friday on a seating design for the facility that allows the Vikings to put their fans close to the action, while ensuring a workable baseball field configuration for the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers.  Read more and view rendering here.

Vikings, Gophers Battle Over Stadium Design

Minnesota Golden Gophers M LogoThe University of Minnesota Golden Gophers are building a new baseball stadium, but the weather in Minnesota will keep the team off the turf in the early part of the baseball season.  The expectation is that the Gophers, along with other college and high school baseball teams, would use the new Minnesota Vikings stadium, but the sports powers are at odds over field dimensions.  Read more here.
