Mexico City’s New Ballpark Set to Open April 5

After three years of construction, the Alfredo Harp Helú baseball stadium, the new home of the Diablos Rojos del México (Triple-A, Liga Mexicana de Béisbol). will be inaugurated on March 23, just ahead of the start of the new season on April 5.  Read more and view photo here.  View another photo here.

Baseball Returning to Laredo

Laredo (TX) City Council last week unanimously voted in favor of a proposal to bring baseball back to Laredo.  The Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos (Owls of the Two Laredos) will occupy Uni-Trade Stadium for the 2018 Liga Mexicana de Béisbol campaign.  The squad is set to split its home schedule between the sister cities.  Read more here.

New Ballpark for Mexican League’s Diablos 50% Complete

Mexican League Negotiating to Use Nueces County Ballpark

Rojos del Águila de VeracruzThe repeatedly-abandoned Fairgrounds Field in Robstown (TX) could soon be home to a new minor league baseball team.  Nueces County is in the early stages of negotiations with the Triple-A Rojos del Águila de Veracruz (Mexican Baseball League) to use the ballpark as a training facility and potentially host an indy pro team.  Read more hereView Nueces County Commissioners Court agenda here.

Mexican League President Honored with MiLB’s Warren Giles Award

Shootout at Ballpark Sends Players, Fans Diving for Cover

An exhibition game featuring the Triple-A Saraperos de Saltillo (Mexican League) at the baseball stadium in the City of Saltillo, northern Mexico, got real interesting on Tuesday, when a fierce gunbattle broke out in the parking lot between gunmen and police.  No fans or players were hurt, but three perps were killed and one was injured.  Read more and view photos here.
