The ring beam and corners of the Metrodome, former home of the Minnesota Twins and Vikings, were brought down Sunday morning with 84 charges of dynamite set in 24 columns of the upper concourse. Using explosives to take down the facility was not part of the original demolition plan, but safety concerns forced explosive action. Read more and watch explosion video here.

The Minnesota Twins’ annual TwinsFest is being moved to the National Sports Center in Blaine (MN), after it was announced that the Metrodome would remain closed for roof repairs until the end of March. The event will take place at the NSC’s Sports Hall and Schwan Conference Center from January 28-30. Read more here.

The Minnesota Twins were finished off in the ALDS by the New York Yankees on Sunday to put the final nail in the Metrodome coffin — at least for baseball. With snow already on the ground in the Gopher State and more on its way, it would be easy to think “be careful what you wish for” when it comes to outdoor baseball in October in the new 39,800-seat roofless Target Field.
