Escondido Mayor: ‘The Ballpark is Dead’

As a result of the California Supreme Court’s ruling this morning upholding the state’s right to abolish local redevelopment agencies, Escondido (CA) Mayor Sam Abed stated today that the proposed new ballpark for the Triple-A Tucson Padres (Pacific Coast League) is now dead.  According to team owner Jeff Moorad, the franchise will likely be sold, unless another market steps up to the plate in the North County.  Read more here.

Escondido Mayor Says Ditch Ballpark for Technology Business Park

Because of uncertainty over the future of redevelopment agencies in California, Escondido (CA) Mayor Sam Abed is calling for the city to put the Triple-A baseball stadium project on hold and use the selected 15-acre ballpark site for a new technology business park.  Not everyone agrees.  Read more here.
