Campaign (IL) Formalizes Plan to Determine Ballpark Feasilbity

In a 5-3 straw poll, the Champaign (IL) City Council voted Tuesday to move forward with Mayor Don Gerard‘s plan to explore building a new baseball stadium.  Read more here.  As we posted previously, the mayor first floated his idea last summer.

Champaign Mayor Finally Appoints Ballpark Exploratory Committee

Champaign (IL) Mayor Don Gerard has finally appointed an exploratory committee to determine the feasbility of building a new minor league ballpark, after announcing the idea last summer.  The group, led by software executive Tony Johnston, will begin discussions on Monday, Jan. 30.  Read more here.  Thanks to John Cerone for the link.

Champaign Mayor Wants Double-A Ball

Newley elected Champaign (IL) Mayor Don Gerard is demonstrating a little naïveté about minor league baseball.  The mayor wants a Double-A club for the new ballpark he is proposing, but figures a Single-A team is more realistic.  Based on existing league footprints and available teams in the affiliated ranks, indy pro is likely the only way to go.  Read more here.
