Upgrades Coming to Mustangs Ballpark

When the Martinsville Mustangs (Summer Collegiate, Coastal Plain League) open the season on Memorial Day weekend, fans will be sure to notice many changes both on the field and around it.  Greg Suire, the new president of the Mustangs, said one of the biggest goals of his team to is make improvements to Hooker Field.  Read more here.

Martinsville to Address Future of Mustangs

As costs continue to rise, while revenues remain flat, the city of Martinsville (VA) has tough budget decisions to make, including evaluating the future of the Martinsville Mustangs (Summer Collegiate, Coastal Plain League).  First, over the last four years, the league has managed the team, as part of a five-year contract with the city that expires after the 2019 season.  Second, Hooker Field needs an estimated $1.5 million in repairs and renovations.  Read more here.

Mustangs Host 2nd Annual Ballpark Beer Fest

Coastal Plain League Franchise to Replace Departing Savannah Sand Gnats

Coastal Plain LogoA summer collegiate Coastal Plain League franchise will take up residence at Grayson Stadium when the Savannah Sand Gnats (Single-A, South Atlantic League) depart for a new ballpark in Columbia (SC) after the 2015 season.  The team will be owned by Jesse Cole and Fans First Entertainment, who will continue to own the Gastonia Grizzlies and manage the Martinsville Mustangs in the CPL.  Read more here.  Watch news reports here and here.

Hooker Field Artificial Turf Project Completed

Mustangs Profitable for the First Time

Operator of Grizzlies and Owls Could Run Mustangs Too

Gastonia (NC)-based Team Cole & Associates is negotiating to manage the summer collegiate Martinsville Mustangs (Coastal Plain League) on behalf of the city of Martinsville (VA), which has continued to subsidize the team to keep it afloat.  A proposed contract is scheduled to come before the city council on Tuesday.  The firm operates the CPL’s successful Gastonia Grizzlies and Forest City Owls.  Read more here.

Mustangs Lose Even More Money in 2011

The city-sponsored summer collegiate Martinsville (VA) Mustangs (Coastal Plain League) lost $58,464 this year, which is 32 percent deeper than last season’s $44,365 deficit.  Needless to say, this doesn’t bode well for the future of the franchise, which has remained on the at-risk list.  Read more here.
