Northwoods League Headed to Rockford?
The bank owner of the Rockford Aviators’ (Indy Pro, Frontier League) ballpark in Loves Park (IL) has reached an agreement with Rockford Baseball Properties led by Chad Bauer to have the group take over the lease as of October 1st. Bauer, who is listed as assistant GM of the summer collegiate Northwoods League’s Lakeshore Chinooks and unsuccessfully tried to bring a NWL franchise to Waukesha (WI), believes Rockford would make a good addition to the circuit. Frontier League Bylaws Force MKE Sports Out of Aviators Camp
For those who didn’t hear this earlier, MKE Sports & Entertainment was forced to terminate its managed service contract with the Rockford Aviators (Indy Pro, Frontier League), after Frontier League Commissioner Bill Lee ruled that the contract violated the league bylaws because the owner of MKE, Michael Zimmerman, owns two teams in the summer collegiate Prospect League. No Suitors Show for Aviators Stadium Open House
No potential buyers came out Thursday for the first open house to inspect Aviators Stadium, which is being sold by its bank owners via online auction starting next Wednesday with at an opening bid of $1.5 million. Aviators Ballpark Hitting the Auction Block
Starting March 25th Aviators Stadium will be on the auction block. Northside Community Bank of Gurnee is putting the Stadium up for sale. The bank foreclosed on the ballpark in February of 2012 when the former owners were unable to make payments. Bidding will take place online and run through April 2. The bidding is expected to start at $1.5 million. Read more and watch news report here.
