Indoor Football League Team Owner Exploring Pro Baseball for Lake Charles (LA)

Chris Meaux, president of the Professional Indoor Football League’s Louisiana Swashbucklers, says he is in preliminary discussions with a group willing to help him bring an indy pro North American League franchise to Lake Charles (LA).  The summer collegiate Texas Collegiate League has also shown interest in the market.  Read more here.

TCL Targets Louisiana for Expansion

Make no mistake about it, the Texas Collegiate League is looking to expand, and that includes venturing deeper into Louisiana to compliment the TCL’s Alexandria Aces and Acadiana Cane Cutters.  In fact, TCL President Uri Geva even mentioned last night during the live broadcast of the 2012 TCL All-Star Game that he would see a Louisiana division for the circuit.  Jim Gazzolo from the American Press would like to see a team in Lake Charles.  Read more here.

Atlantic League Eyeing 12, Maybe 16 Teams in Wake of Sugar Land Expansion

After staking its flag in the Lone Star State with bold expansion to Sugar Land, the indy pro Atlantic League is necessarily exploring options for several more companion teams in Texas and Louisiana.  It’s possible the league could reach 16 teams, with eight operating in the current eastern footprint and four complimenting the Skeeters.  Read more here.  Thanks to John Cerone for the link.

Mike Miley Stadium Gets New Turf

A new synthetic infield is being installed at Mike Miley Stadium/Playground in Metairie (LA).  The facility is home to local amateur teams, but it looks summer collegiate worthy.  Read more here.

Texas Collegiate League Expands to Lafayette

The Texas Collegiate League is coming to Lafayette (LA).  The expansion franchise will be owned by Lafayette resident Richard Chalmers.  The team will known as the Acadiana Cane Cutters and will play at Fabacher Field beginning in 2011.  The field will undergo improvements before next season.  Read more here.

New League #2 Pops Up in Louisiana

Pete Goldsby Field in Baton Rouge (LA) will be the site for a new four team summer collegiate league being launched by the Red Stick Amateur Baseball League organization.  According to RSABL president and commissioner Locke Wheeler, teams in the RSABL Collegiate Summer League will play twice a week at Goldsby starting June 9 and ending in July.
