The Avon (OH) City Council has approved transferring the All Pro Freight Stadium lease to Blue Dog Baseball LLC led by Tom Kramig, which signed a deal with Avon Pro Baseball LLC to take over the day-to-day operations of the Lake Erie Crushers (Independent Professional, Frontier League), with the option to purchase the team outright within a year. A 120-foot light pole came crashing down on Wednesday night or early Thursday morning at All Pro Freight Stadium, home of the indy pro Lake Erie Crushers (Frontier League). The City of Avon (OH) is working to determine the cause. The ballpark and light poles are relatively new, so this strange toppling is certainly a tad troubling. Read more and view photos here.
The headless mascot crisis in Avon (OH) is over. The head of Stomper, the bear mascot for the indy pro Lake Erie Crushers (Frontier League), has been been returned. All Pro Freight Stadium, home of the indy pro Lake Erie Crushers, has been awarded a $200,000 grant from the Ohio Cultural Facilities Commission. The $13.6 million stadium is only two years old, so the money will be placed in the facility’s capital improvement fund. The $250,000 annual lease payment the Crushers pay goes toward stadium debt relief. Read more here
Ohio Governor John Kasich has signed into law legislation that extends the property tax exemption for affiliated, municipally-owned stadiums to non-affiliated ballparks. Currently, affiliated ball clubs using public recreation facilities are exempt from property taxes in Ohio. This is not the case for clubs like the Frontier League’s Lake Erie Crushers that are not affiliated with Major League Baseball. Several concerned legislators, including Rep. Dennis Murray from Sandusky, OH, have introduced legislation in the state legislature to change this. Sandusky is vying for a Frontier League franchise. Read more here.
