The Triple-A Rochester Red Wings (International League) and Frontier Field began hosting outdoor hockey with the Rochester Americans vs. Lake Erie Monsters (AHL) on Friday, Dec. 13. The Double-A Harrisburg Senators (Eastern League) will be sporting Hershey Bears-themed hockey jerseys for Hockey Night tonight at Metro Bank Park. The jerseys will be auctioned off after the game. As a giveaway, the first 1,000 fans through the gates will receive commemorative hockey puck. What? No chocolate?

Citizens Bank Park, home of the Philadelphia Phillies, will host the NHL’s 2012 Winter Classic on Jan. 2 at 1:00 p.m. EST between the Philadelphia Flyers and the New York Rangers. Check out a time lapse video here of the field being transformed into an outdoor hockey rink.

The Ice Park at Clipper Magazine Stadium, home of the indy pro Lancaster Barnstormers (Atlantic League), will host its first ever sanctioned hockey game on Jan. 9. The midget hockey battle will pit Lancaster’s Regency Panthers against the York Devils. This is not quite the NHL or ECHL, but it should be a lot of fun nevertheless. Read more here.
