Okay, we hate to even mention this because of the highly overstated claims being made by the new super indy pro North American League about mega expansion next season from 10 to 16+ teams, but the circuit announced in a press release last week that Hilo (HI) is on board for 2012. We assume we are talking about Francis Wong Stadium as the home ballpark.

The Golden Baseball League received approval on Friday from the Maui City Council to use Maehera Stadium for the GBL’s newest franchise. In lieu of fee for the first season, the new team will pay $15,000 for facility upgrades. In subsequent years, the fee will be $500 per game, or $22,000 for the team’s 44 home dates. XnE, Inc. (aka Xcellence in Entertainment) has announced that it has paid $800,000 to acquire the exclusive rights to operate four Golden Baseball League franchises on the Hawaiian Islands. The first team is expected to be located on Maui at War Memorial Complex. Read more here.
