Butler BlueSox Leaving Prospect League, Future Uncertain

More information about the future of the Butler BlueSox, as well as the future name of Kelly Automotive Park, could be revealed at a special meeting next week.  Read more here.  In a news release issued earlier this month, Butler BlueSox Baseball Organization, the team’s ownership group, announced the club would be leaving the Prospect League (Summer Collegiate) after 10 seasons.  The more economical Great Lakes League (Summer Collegiate) was mentioned as a possible landing spot for the franchise.  Read more here.

Ironmen Sold, Relocated to Saginaw

The Lorain County Ironmen franchise has been sold and moved to Saginaw (MI). The Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League team will be known as the Saginaw Sugar Beets.  Read more and watch news report here.

Muskegon Moves to Great Lakes League

The summer collegiate Muskegon Clippers have joined the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, after spending their first three years of existence in the Michigan Summer Collegiate Baseball League.  Read more here.

Summer Collegiate Ball Returns to McBride Stadium

The Richmond RiverRats (Summer Collegiate, Prospect League) announced in October that they were pulling out of McBride Stadium in Richmond (IN), but it didn’t take long to fill the void.  The new Richmond Jazz (Summer Collegiate, Great Lakes League) will be taking their place.  Read more here.

Irish Hills Leprechauns Join Great Lakes League

PRESS RELEASE – The Irish Hills Leprechauns have been introduced as new members of the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League, the team announced today. The team will play home games at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan. The team is a cooperative partnership of the Catholic Baseball Players, Inc. and the Michigan Red Sox Inc.

Ironmen Change Leagues

The summer collegiate Lorain County Ironmen on Thursday announced that the team has left the Prospect League and will begin play in the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League beginning in 2015.  A team official said the move is designed to provide geographical advantages and ease travel for players.  Read more here.

Hamilton Joes Explore Building New Downtown Ballpark

The summer collegiate Hamilton Joes (Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League) are looking to build a new downtown baseball stadium. The ballpark would have 2,500 to 3,000 seats and cost between $7.5 million and $10 million, according to Hamilton (OH) architect Mike Dingeldein.  Read more here.

Holland Millers Join Start-Up Michigan Summer Collegiate League

The Holland Millers have joined the start-up Michigan Summer Collegiate Baseball League.  The team will play at Boeve Baseball Stadium at Hope College.  The Millers join the Muskegon Clippers, Grand Rapids, and three teams from the Detroit area.  The league will be affiliated with the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and could eventually become a northern division of the circuit.  Read more here.

Michigan Summer Collegiate Baseball League to Launch in 2014

It has been announced that the new Michigan Summer Collegiate Baseball League will begin operations in 2014.  Four teams have committed to play so far.  The Muskegon Clippers will play at Marsh Field.  The other three teams are from the Detroit area, Holland and Grand Rapids.  The league will be affiliated with the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League and could eventually become

Grand Lake Mariners: From Field to Front Office

Field manager Mike Goldschmidt has taken the reins as president and general manager of the summer collegiate Grand Lake Mariners (Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League) located in Celina (OH).  Goldschmidt served as the club’s skipper for the past two seasons.  Read more here.

Joes Announce New GM, Team to Host All-Star Game at MLB Park

The third-year summer collegiate Hamilton (OH) Joes from the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League have promoted assistant GM and base coach Joshua Manley to GM, after team co-founder, president and GM Mike Brennan, 67, stepped aside for health reasons.  Head coach and team co-founder Darrel Grissom has assumed the role of president of the Joes.
