Brewfest Returns to Centene Stadium, All-Female AC/DC Tribute Band to Headline

Longtime Centene Groundskeeper Passes Away

Great Falls VoyagersBill (Billy C) Chafin, who for nearly a quarter-century was the chief groundskeeper at Centene Stadium and a familiar figure to sports fans in Great Falls, passed away earlier this week at age 76. Centene is the home of the Rookie-level Great Falls Voyagers (Pioneer League).  Read more here.

Centene Transforms, Readies for Inaugural Brewfest and 70s/80s Rocker Eddie Money

PRESS RELEASE – Stage crews arrived overnight to start transforming Centene Stadium to a Concert Venue for the first annual, Brewfest at the Ballpark. Top-10 Old Minor League Ballparks? Don’t Forget Centene

The Highwayman from the Delaware County (PA) Daily Times (www.delcotimes.com) put together a list of the  Top-10 classic minor league ballparks.  Read more here.  Our one big beef with the list is that every stadium is located East of the Mississippi River, except for O’Donnell Stadium (now Modern Woodmen Park) in Davenport (IA), which is a homerun away from the Big Muddy. Voyagers Announcer Sent Packing After 32 Years

Long-time Great Falls Voyagers (White Sox/Dodgers/ Giants) announcer Tim Paul has been replaced by 31-year-old radio personality “Nick Northern” after spending 32 years calling Great Falls professional baseball games.  This news didn’t go over well with Paul, who understandably reacted with disbelief and bewilderment.  Apparently, the Voyagers were simply looking for a fresh approach.  Read more here.

Upgrades are Coming to Centene Stadium

The Great Falls City Commission has voted to approve $346,ooo for updgrades to Centene Stadium, home of the Pioneer League’s Great Falls Voyagers.  The Voyagers will apparently raise an additional $1.1 million for stadium renovations through a stock sale.  Improvements will include field boxes, renovated concessions, added family friendly areas down the right-field line, landscaping, and our favorite fan-friendly uprade — asbestos removal.  Read more here.

Funds for Great Falls Ballpark Improvements Delayed

The City of Great Falls has decided to put off a decision to grant $345,772 for improvements to Centene Stadium, home of the Pioneer League’s Great Falls Voyagers.  The total cost for the project is estimated to be $1.5 million.  The proposed improvements include a field box area.  Read more and view rendering here.

Voyagers Seeking Ballpark Improvements

The Pioneer League’s Great Falls Voyagers have requested$340,000 from the city of Great Falls to help pay for $1.4 to $1.5 million in improvements to Centene Stadium.  Additional dollars for the project could come from grants or a stock offering by the club.  Desired updgrades include a new field box and concessions area.  Read more here and here.
