Under normal circumstances, having your stadium only half full for your inaugural home opener would be a major disappointment. Not so for the Rookie-level Grand Junction Rockies (Pioneer League), which defeated the Idaho Falls Chukars 10-6 in front of 4,850 at 10,000-seat Suplizio Field. The Rookie-level Grand Junction Rockies (Pioneer League) will host their inaugural home opener at newly-renovated Suplizio Field on Saturday, June 23. The former Casper Ghosts relocated from Wyoming to Colorado after the 2011 season. Suplizio is also home to the Colorado Mesa University Mavericks and JUCO World Series. The Casper (WY) City Council approved on Tuesday a $20,000 expenditure for equipment that would help bring a summer collegiate Mountain Collegiate Baseball League team to Mike Lansing Field this summer, while the city works to lure another Pioneer League franchise to town. Read more here.

The $8.3 million renovation of Suplizio Field, home of the JUCO World Series and now the relocated Rookie-level Grand Junction Rockies (formerly Casper Ghosts) (Pioneer League), is well underway and should be completed on schedule. Casper (WY) is now officially teamless. In a shocking development (sarcasm intended), the Grand Junction (CO) City Council unanimously approved a lease deal between the city and the Rookie-level Casper Ghosts/Grand Junction Rockies (Pioneer League) to play at Suplizio Field beginning next season. The stadium, home of the JUCO World Series, is currently undregoing $8.5 million in renovations. Read more here.
