Start-Up USPBL Unveils Team Names, Logos

United Shore Professional Baseball LeagueThe names and logos have been unveiled for the three teams that will take up residence at $12-million Jimmy John’s Field being built in Utica (MI) by Rochester-based General Sports and Entertainment.  The United Shore Baseball League’s Birmingham Bloomfield Beavers, Eastside Diamond Hoppers and Utica Unicorns will begin play in 2016.  Read more and view photo here.  Watch unveiling here.

Construction Begins on United Shore League Ballpark in Utica (MI), Name the Teams Contest Underway

United Shore Baseball League LogoProgress is being made on Jimmy Johns Field, the minor league ballpark currently under construction in Utica (MI) for a new three-team independent professional league called the United Shore Professional Baseball League.  The $12 million project is being privately funded and is led by Rochester-based General Sports and Entertainment.  The team names have been narrowed down the the following: 59’ers, Beavers, Blue Collars, Diamond Hoppers, Fizz, Mud Pups, Rally Caps, River Rats, Screeching Cicadas, Stags, Steelheads and Unicorns.  Read more here.

Hazardous Waste Cleanup Scheduled for Site of Proposed Utica (MI) Ballpark

General SportsBefore the first pitch is thrown at the proposed new $10 million baseball stadium in Utica, a brownfield cleanup program will be launched to remove close to 20,000 tons of contaminated soil from the property.  Read more here.

Groundbreaking Scheduled for New Utica (MI) Ballpark

General SportsA ceremonial groundbreaking for a $12 million professional baseball stadium in Utica (MI) is scheduled for 11 a.m. June 23.  The project is led by Rochester (MI) sports entrepreneur Andy Appleby and will be entirely privately financed through his General Sports organization.  The stadium is slated to be home to a three-team independent developmental baseball league launching in 2016.  Read more here.
